Click the image below to watch the video.
The aim of the Sardinia Caves project is to work in collaboration with local institutions and a group of scientific researchers to achieve two main goals:
- Collect sediment samples in the many different anchialine caves located in the Gulf of Orosei and to study the association of some very small organisms, benthic foraminifera, which live in the sediment and that are considered important environmental indicators because as they are very sensitive adapting to environmental conditions and variation.
- Document and survey the fossilized bones of Mediterranean monk seals found in the Bel Torrente cave.
The Gulf of Orosei is located on the eastern coast of Sardinia, enclosed between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the wild area of Barbagia, with the villages of Cala Gonone and Baunei at the northern and southern extremities.
In an effort to continuously document our activities, we are publishing our latest video with an overview of the 2018 campaigns and the results achieved so far.
