È in libreria e disponibile online, il nuovo libro di Andrea Murdock Alpini: Nomade del profondo. L’esploratore subacqueo questa volta ci condurrà sott’acqua alla ricerca del sé.
In precedenza i libri del ricercatore subacqueo si erano concentrati maggiormente su diversi aspetti, questa volta il viaggio è interiore e i luoghi sono il mezzo per raggiungere l’essenziale.

I precedenti titoli pubblicati sono stati DEEP BLUE: storie di relitti e luoghi sommersi (2019), cui ha fatto seguito la raccolta di avventure scritte per il mondo, IMMERSIONI SELVAGGE (2022). L’anno successivo è stata invece pubblicata la monografia ANDREA DORIA: UN LEMBO DI PATRIA (2023), ampia retrospettiva storica e documentale sulla più bella nave che l’Italia abbia mai varato.

Nomade del profondo è articolato in tre sezioni differenti: viaggi e immersioni nel sottosuolo, le interviste americane alle querce della subacquea tecnica mondiale e infine le esplorazioni interiori vissute attraverso i relitti.
Nove storie in grado di incantare e far viaggiare con la mente chiunque si cimenti nella lettura. Non un libro di subacquea quindi, e non solo dedicato al mondo sommerso. Un libro ampio e introspettivo dove avventura e sentimenti si miscelano pagina dopo pagina, portando con sé il lettore in profondità, sempre più nelle profondità abissali del proprio io.

L’autore nella prima parte viaggia alla ricerca di sé conducendo il lettore in grotte sui Carpazi, in laghi sulle Alpi o tuffandosi in una miniera allagata sperduta del Sud Africa.

Saper popolare il proprio eremo è l’atto che ciascun viaggiatore solitario deve riuscire a compiere.

Il viaggio è nelle mente prima ancora che nel passo. 

Centrali nel corpo del libro sono le tre interviste condotte ai pionieri dell’esplorazione subacquea d’oltre oceano. Attraverso le parole di Bret Gilliam, Michael Menduno e Hal Watts si rivive in queste pagine il fascino di un mondo pionieristico ormai scomparso. Quali insegnamenti hanno lasciato ai giovani subacquei del futuro?

Il volume si conclude infine con tre storie dal sapore di sale. 

Qui saranno i relitti e il senso del viaggio a riportare a casa il lettore, dopo aver attraversato  l’Europa dal Nord della Norvegia al profondo Sud della Calabria Grecanica.

Il viaggiatore solitario è accompagnato da una moltitudine di pensieri che lo scortano sempre, che non lo abbandonano mai.

L’autore è stato insignito dall’Accademia Internazionale di Scienze e Tecniche Subacquee con il prestigioso Tridente d’Oro per la sua attività esplorativa e di ricerca.
Organizza corsi e viaggi in luoghi insoliti creando avventure che uniscono l’esplorazione alla subacquea. Documenta il proprio lavoro con video e articoli che pubblica su testate italiane ed estere. Tiene conferenze e seminari inerenti il suo lavoro.

Tales of Ordinary Underwater Madness

Andrea Murdock Alpini’s new book, Nomad of the Deep, is now available in bookstores and online. This time, the underwater explorer takes us beneath the surface in search of the self.

In his previous works, Alpini focused on various aspects of diving, but this journey is more introspective, with places serving as a means to reach what is essential.
His earlier publications include DEEP BLUE: Stories of Shipwrecks and Submerged Places (2019), followed by the adventure anthology WILD DIVES (2022). In 2023, he released the monograph ANDREA DORIA: A PIECE OF HOMELAND, an extensive historical and documentary retrospective on Italy’s most beautiful ship ever launched.

Nomad of the Deep is divided into three distinct sections: journeys and dives into the underground, American interviews with the “oaks” of global technical diving, and, finally, inner explorations experienced through shipwrecks.

Nine stories that captivate and take the reader on a mental journey. This is not just a book about diving, nor is it solely dedicated to the underwater world. It is a broad, introspective work where adventure and emotions blend page after page, drawing the reader deeper and deeper into the abyss of their own being.

In the first section, the author travels in search of himself, guiding the reader through caves in the Carpathians, lakes in the Alps, or plunging into a remote flooded mine in South Africa.
Learning to inhabit one’s own solitude is an essential act for any solitary traveler.
The journey begins in the mind before it ever takes a single step.

At the heart of the book are three interviews with pioneers of underwater exploration from across the ocean. Through the words of Bret Gilliam, Michael Menduno, and Hal Watts, these pages bring to life the charm of a pioneering world now long gone. What lessons have they left for the young divers of the future?

The book concludes with three stories tinged with the flavor of salt. Here, shipwrecks and the essence of travel guide the reader back home, after crossing Europe from northern Norway to the deep south of Grecanic Calabria.

The solitary traveler is always accompanied by a multitude of thoughts that never leave him, that are always by his side.

The author has been honored by the International Academy of Underwater Sciences and Techniques with the prestigious Golden Trident for his exploratory and research activities.
He organizes courses and journeys to unusual locations, creating adventures that combine exploration with diving. He documents his work through videos and articles published in both Italian and international outlets. He also delivers conferences and seminars related to his work.
