Professional Diving Schools Association (PDSA)

The Professional Diving Schools Association (PDSA) was originally formed in 1982 in order to represent the interests of the diving community in Malta. Its aim was to liaise with the Maltese government and its various departments,as MTA (Malta Tourism Authority, led by Ministry of Tourism) on all matters connected with scuba diving, presenting a common and coherent view point. The various members of the Association have a genuine concern for issues such as diver safety, diver education and the environment; all areas that require constant monitoring. From its inception, the Association has increased in size from a handful of centres to around 45, nowadays, distributed throughout the Maltese Islands.
The centres range in size from small to large and continue to increase in number each season. All of the diving infrastructures put in place to facilitate safe diving practices are there due to the hard work put in by the PDSA members. This includes railings and ladders into the water, toilets and benches at dive sites as well as any other safety measures in place and even the buoys indicating the wrecks. In the past 20 years, we have managed the scuttling of more than 10 wrecks to create new marine life habitats and as attractions for divers. The last one being the Hephaestus, a small oil tanker, scuttled in August 2022 but many other projects are on the bucket list. Stay tuned.
