GUE: Expanding Diver Training

Global Underwater Explorers (GUE) has been an innovator in diving education since its inception in 1998. The not-for-profit training agency was instrumental in helping to create industry-wide awareness of trim and buoyancy and the first to eliminate “Deep Air” diving—in fact, the first to eliminate air diving altogether. All of GUE’s courses are conducted using nitrox, for dives to 30m/100 ft, and trimix beyond that.

GUE was also the first to require certification renewal and instructor requalification, while scores of industry professionals and leadership from all agencies have taken its innovative Fundamentals course, i.e., “Fundies.” More recently, the agency added Project Diver courses to prepare divers for work on exploration and conservation projects—a core component of GUE’s DNA—and has extended its tech training at depths of up to 120 m/400 ft plus in its Level 3 courses.

Now the agency is at it again, offering two new training programs in response to increased interest in rebreather diving and making GUE training more accessible, using its new adaptive learning platform.—InDEPTH
