About the SeeDeep reading glasses

SeeDeep has developed reading glasses that are designed to be worn outside the diving mask and fit all types and shapes of diving masks. People who use standard reading glasses in their daily lives can now get a pair of standard ‘readers’ that can be used on their own diving mask or any other mask. These glasses are not suitable for complex prescriptions or bifocal lenses. For these, people need to contact an optician. Most people over the age of 50 use standard reading glasses. For these people, there are now accessible reading glasses that can be used without any preparation before the dive or the need to buy a special mask. 

External lenses can offer an advantage for both regular divers and underwater photographers.

Divers can use these reading glasses in the same way as they would in everyday life. When they don’t need to see objects nearby, they can use the full capacity of their diving mask without fixed lenses limiting their distant view. Only when they need to see objects nearby they can put the glasses on, just as they would do in their everyday life.

The advantage for underwater photographers is that they can choose the optimal position for their diving mask. Underwater photographers usually spent a lot of time near an object to make the perfect shot.

Fixed lenses are usually positioned in the lower part of a diving mask meaning that photographers need to tilt their head back to see through their reading lenses. This could be uncomfortable when they have to do this for a longer period of time. External reading glasses provide more comfort to photographers when objects are in front of them or above them.

Another advantage for all divers is that fog has no effect on these reading glasses. Because they are outside the diving mask, a diver will always have a sharp view on their dive computer, camera screen or tiny sea creatures.

Technical specifications

The frames of the reading glasses are made from Aluminum and are anodized to make them seawater resistant. The bolts/screws are stainless steel and are also seawater resistant.

The lenses are made from Polycarbonate and have an anti-scratch coating. Polycarbonate is known for its strength and unbreakability.

The diopters of the lenses are standard and are available in the following diopters: +1.00 – +1.25 – +1.50 – +1.75 – +2.00 – +2.50 and +3.00 Later this year the diopters 3.50 and 4.00 will be added to our stock.

People who need different diopters for each eye can order any combination of lenses.

The weight of the reading glasses are 0.91 oz (or 26 grams)

The reading glasses are worn with a silicone head strap that will keep the glasses on the diving mask.

On the contact points (where the glasses meet the mask frames) are adhesive parts that prevent the glasses from “sliding” on the diving mask frames.

Because of the backwards pull of the silicone strap the glasses will automatically seek the middle position on the diving mask. The adhesive parts cause friction and make it possible for the glasses to “stay” in any chosen position. This was the best possible solution to tackle this problem without having to add any parts (mounts/magnets/screws) to the diving mask.

The nose bridge of reading glasses are designed to fit even frameless diving masks. Because the glasses of a frameless mask are closer to the eyes the nose part will automatically stick out more.                  

A set of reading glasses always include a neoprene pouch that can be attached to the BCD. On the back of the pouch there are two carabiner hooks and a silicone ring. The silicone ring needs to be attached to the BCD and one carabiner hook needs to be attached to the silicone ring that will stretch when the BCD is filled with air.

At the bottom of the pouch there is a hole to release the air (and water) from the pouch

The neoprene pouch is used to store the glasses when divers; enter the water, during the dive (when not in use) or leaving the water.
